About Us

We Envision African Women And Girls Empowered For Sustainable Livelihoods

Founded in 2018, Rescue Women Foundation (RWF) Uganda is a Women-Led Foundation that is premised on the notion that empowering young mothers, women and teenage girls can immensely lift their Livelihoods and the society around thereby contributing to the sustainable development in communities. At the Foundation, our heartbeat is pointed at Empowering vulnerable women, teenage mothers, victims of SGBV and taking care of the elderly through various programs. Together, we are on a Mission of Empowering Vulnerable women and girls for sustainable livelihoods economically and through education and health. We believe that this should equip them to be resilient and help to uphold their dignity despite the forces that tend to pull them down especially the Patriarchal settings in communities. The Foundation is Pro-Life.

A Personal History

Rescue Women (33).jpg

Many women and girls – especially in developing countries – are forced to endure a lot of inequality around them yet they keep going. We were founded by one such a woman whose world crumbled for a moment having lost her father as a teenager. She lived from household to household with various relatives. She eventually would live with her mother who worked in an odd informal sector and with help from local loan support groups she would pay hers and her sibling’s school fees ushering her into a world of endless possibilities.

Rescue Women Foundation was founded informally by Miriam Nabasirye Kiwummulo and Miriam’s husband John Leonard Kyalimpa in November of 2018. First, they got the opportunity to listen to stories of many vulnerable women and girls. Informally they would contribute to their school fees or talk them out of sex work. Later from their meagre savings they would give them micro capital. This story grew into the foundation it is today. In addition to funding from well-wishers, over 70% of the Foundation’s Funding comes from John and Miriam’s personal resources.

A Distinct Identity

Rescue Women Foundation knows that our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly through the actions of our initiatives. Back in 2018, our Non-Governmental Organization realized that by working together we could overcome our challenges much more efficiently, and that is why we ultimately decided to launch Rescue Women Foundation.
